As some of you noticed, or didn’t, remember, or forgotten, I am no longer employed in the management of a Mazda dealer’s parts department.
I am now employed in the management of a Chrysler Dodge Jeep RAM dealer’s parts department.
Its really all a ploy to get employee price on a Challenger Hellcat. Yeah right.
My first dealership job WAS at a Dodge dealer, and my next job after that was in parts at a Dodge dealer. So it’s not all that new to me. Plus as the saying goes, “parts is parts”.
I’ve been busy learning the ropes of the new place, the new computer system, and remembering how to find all the older Dodge stuff (I left Dodge for Mazda in 2005) as well as where all the new stuff is hidden.
I’m mostly caught up with training, and the smaller low-volume dealer I’m at now gives me much more free time for Oppo learning all about Mopar once again.
The smaller dealer was one of the reasons I left Mazda. The other was the distance. 60 miles a day round trip was killing me. The gas prices, the insurance, the stress of dealing with asshats on the highways, the stress of dealing with asshat customers..... I could go on.
I’m now a LOT closer to home, the clientele is a LOT nicer, and the pace is just... better.
I’m happier, and I look forward to coming to work. Oh, and no more Saturdays! YAY ME.
Just thought I’d clue y’all in, since I’ve been absent lately. Yes I still have the Mazda3. No, I haven’t tried to trade it in on a Challenger.
Yet.

Ask one of the old timers about the Highland Park Hummingbird (assuming you don’t know).

I.... I don’t. I’m scared.

DOPENESS!!!!!!!!!!!! Congrats buddy, you earned it :]

Thanks! It doesn’t feel like it all the time, but I do feel like I have earned this. 10+ years in the city makes me feel like I’ve paid my dues.

Congratulations on the new job.
I hope it’s easier to buy Mopar parts than it is for Mazda. “you need my vin? Yeah sure let me just rattle it out from memory”.

Did I mention its less money? Still smart for the other reasons though.

Oh man! Say what you may about VW but I can just go in there with my registration number which is handily on the front and back of my car in 4 inch characters and get anything for it.

It can get to a point where other things matter more than money. You got to that point.

Nice!! I do GM, Subaru, and Hyundai. I love where I work but its an 84 mile round trip drive and its killing me, but I am looking to move instead of switch to a closer dealer cause I hate where I live. I though it was funny our situations are kinda backwards.

Nope, never had a new car and always bought private and never can find what I want locally. But due to the way we register cars over here you can type the licence plate into almost any parts website and assuming that your car has got legit plates it’ll bring up the details.
![]() 11/13/2015 at 18:03 |

Details, yes. All correct info? No. A lot of places use the DMV info to match the VIN to the plate, but only info given by the VIN as far as engine size, drive, etc are known. Things such as which wheel style or interior color and trim type are not known. Usually.

GET OUT WHILE YOU STILL CAN!!
![]() 11/13/2015 at 18:06 |
|
Correct but typically if I have to go to a dealer for parts its usually something like engine sensors or paint, which don’t require trim.

Why would I want out?

Any chance you’re at a dealer in the Mid-Atlantic?
And Welcome to the wonderful world of recalls!

Midwest... and OH BOY, recall city!

The long drive. Its what got me starting on looking closer to home for a job.

Pretty much! Don't forget back ordered 9 speeds! Though it's a good company in reality. A lot of the dealers need to come out of the dark ages, but it's a work in progress.

Well see I like my job 100x more than I like where I live, so I’m moving closer instead.
